Chichu tried to step forward toward Taira angrily at the first accusation, but bumped into Kuro, who had postioned himself protectivly in front of her. It was the small reminder she needed that she didn't want to fight. She breathed in then out in a low hiss, her frustration draining slightly, but not enough.
"We didn't tell because I didn't want to deal with people's opinions." She snarled, a hand clamping onto Kuro's arm, as if she was restraining herself. "And I honestly didn't want to deal with you, or anyone like you. There's a magic to secrecy. I'm sure you know that."
She glanced at Kuro and a pang of guilt hit her. She breathed in and, as she breathed out, muttered so low that even with her sensitive ears Taira wouldn't hear, though Kuro would.
"I'm sorry..."

"Sssh, it's fine."
Kuro did his best to reassure the tiny girl at his side, though he wasn't sure he could make that promise. He knew his sister better than anyone, but she could be so unpredictable. Besides, she really didn't like to be lied to, and he was near certain that she'd count this as a lie. He hadn't told her the truth, and he coudn't remember the last time he'd kept something important from her. Kuro had to wonder, even though he trusted the girl with his life, why he wasn't sure he trusted her with this secret.
"Taira..."
There was a note of pleading in the word, and the response given was a soft sigh. Taira always caved, it was one of her few weaknesses. She couldn't deny her brother, and they both knew it.
"How long do you think you're going to be able to keep this a secret then?"
She demanded, arching her eyebrows questioningly.

Chu blinked for a moment in surprise, amazed that Kuro could, apparently, pacify his sister with one pleading word. Though she knew it probably wouldn't help for her to answer, Chewy spoke up.
"We weren't sure. I knew it probably wouldn't last long, but we wanted to have... this, for as long as possible. Please, I know I'm the last person to ask this of you, but please don't tell anyone. It would be torture for both myself and your brother, if people knew."
Her hand, clamped around Kuro's arm, slid down to his hand. She glanced at him, then back at Taira, a pleading look on her face.

"You're right.. You are the last person who should be asking me for favours."
Taira responded sharply, and then sighed. It was easy to hate Chewy when she was messing with her brothers head, when she was making him break things in his anger. It was easy to be angry when her brother was angry, easy to lash out and claw him.
Now, now they jsut looked so... Serene. Serene yet scared. Like a dying mother trying to be brave. Why was it bringing bacl that memory. That was an unwlecome intrusion. Kuro frowned ever so slightly as he watched the emotions flicker across his sisters face, slipping his fingers through Chewy's.
"Taira? "I'm fine."
She cut across him with a slighlty forced smile, meant to reassure but failign desperatly.
"You guys suck at keeping screts though... You need help. I can't beleive I'm actually saying this..."
She paused, glancing down at the floor for a few long moments.
"I'll help."
Kuro looked down and Chewy and grinned.

This time, Chewy couldn't even bring herself to blink. She just gapped at Taira, her mouth halfway open. Her hand stiffened in Kuro's, her grip almost lost. It took a few moments and a couple choke-is sounding noises from her throat for her to be able to speak, again.
"You... you will?" She knew she couldn't hide the shock, by now. She didn't even try. She glanced at Kuro, as if to make sure it wasn't a trick, but returned her eyes to Taira, still dazed.

"Don't misunderstand... I don't like you. No, I'm still quite content to think of the different ways I could kill you. However, it has become painfully clear you two are strangley obsessed, or is possesed the right word? Either way, me hating it isn't going to make either one of you let go... In fact, you've taken to lying, cheating and scheming. Which are normally quite admirable traits, except I don't think you two are skilled enough. I'm a professional, and I can hide this better. So you need me, and he needs me and that outweighs my desire to destroy you both."
Taira explained in silky soft tones, her dark eyes flickering between the two. It was true she had no real desire to keep their secrets, but under no circumstance would she allow that vampire to beleive there was the hope of friendhsip between them. She was playing games on her borthers head, Taira could see that there were cruel intentions behind this secrecy the girl implored them to mantain. She was hiding something, and it would rise to the surface soon and it would cripple her brother - of that Taira had no doubt. But she'd rather she was right there at his side, then pushed away from the whole scene. At least if she was in the midst of it all, she had a chance of preventing the heartbreak.
"But we are not friends!"
She growled at Chewy, determinded to get her point across. Her eyes flashed angrily, and then she mantained her calm visage once more.
"Thank you Tee-Tee."
Kuro murmured, tucking Chewy slightly closer to his side. He was used to his sisters mood changes, and they rarely suprised him anymore. He'd stake his life she had her own reasons for this path she'd decided to take, and no doubt she done a mental tally weighing up the pro's and con's. She wouldn't tell him though. He could tell that from the set of her jaw and the way her eyes moved. He could read her easier than any book, yet he rarely understood.

"Thank...you." Chichu said, finally managing to blink. "And I understand."
She shrank slightly into Kuro's side and looked up at him. She couldn't help holding her own suspicions, her eyes still blinking in surprise. She looked up at Kuro, as if for reassurance. At that moment, she really wanted to be alone with him, like usual. Taira's pressense seemed to crush her as she stood beside Kuro, her face still stunned.

Taira watched the way ChiChu looked to her brother for reassurance, and rolled her eyes.
"You guys are lame. Anyhow, I've got places to be, and people to see so I'll check in with you later. Play safe now kiddies."
She said brightly, sliding to the floor and dancing along to the door. As her fingers touched the lock, Kuro called out a question. She paused, and then answered slowly in the harsh tongue they so often reverted to. Kuro hesitated and then muttered something else. Taira simply clicked the lock open and stepped out into the darkness of the hall. There was the patter of feet as she sprinted away, but it was gone in a second or so. Kuro frowned slightly, concern on his face. He didn't like her going there alone...
"See, she's not a complete ice queen."
He said softly, trying to lighten the suddenly tense atmosphere.

"Yeah... not completely." Chewy muttered, then sighed and shook her head before looking back up at Kuro. She turned around so she was directly in front of him, facing him, her arms around his waist.
"But," She said, her tone softer, most traces of her former anxiety gone. She rested her forehead against his chest, pressing against him. "At least she's gone, now."

Kuro smiled wryly but didn't reply. No doubt his sister would be thrilled that Chewy thought such things. He gathered her into his arms, holding her close. It was easy to forget how evil his sister could be, but it was clear it was something Chewy hadn't managed to shake free.
"It will be fine."
He promised, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

"If you say so," She sighed, turning her head up to catch his lips. She let her lips work with his for a minute before pulling away, a wry smile on her face.
"I'm sorry if it seems as though I don't trust her... you aren't mad, are you?" She asked, touching his lips with her cold fingers.

"I'm not angry at you."
He assured the girl, kissing her fingertips before reaching up and catching her hand. He wrapped his warm fingers around her icy ones and held it tightly, while his other arm was still looped around her waist.
"I just wonder sometimes... Will you hate me like you hate her?"
He asked in a hurry, eyes closing as he cringed inside. It had been perfectly lovely before his sister had arrived, but with a few sharp and precise words she'd thrown him into doubt and turmoil.
"When you realise that I am just the same as she is..."
He added in a hushed whisper.

Her brows were furrowed at first, but when he explained, they rose, then fell with understanding. She didn't like hearing him talk like that.
"Oh, Kuro..." She murmured, taking a step toward him as she shook her head. "I could never, never hate you. And I don't hate her. She hates me- I know it- and that makes me... not trust her. You.. You aren't like her." She looked down at their intwined hands, adjusting them so their fingers wove together. "How would you be like her? It's not like you'd ever second guess her... I can tell."
She looked up at him, bringing the back of her hand, still gripping his, to stroke his face.
"Right?"

Wrong.
He felt guilty inside now, for somehow tricking this angelic creature into believing that he was so high, when it all truth he was low. He had never truly left the pits of hell; he stayed deep in the earth. But how could he tell her that? He was not a creature designed to confess his sins, and in fact he was raised and designed to embrace sins and personify them. He looked down at their intertwined hands, her fingers cold and pale like ice.
“I do.”
He murmured quietly, reluctant to spoil the moment.
“You have to understand, we’ve always belonged to each other. Nobody else. We don’t deal with other people. She sees you as a threat of sorts, I think that’s the best way to describe it. I’m far more possessive… I don’t like sharing.”
He admitted gently, closing his eyes as she caressed his cheek.
“I’m sorry.”

She watched him as she listened, calculating what he'd said. Usually, she put things- like how people felt and their reactions and words- together like a math problem. a+b always equals c. 1*b always eqauls b. E=mc^2. 1+3=4. But the way he was acting and the way she'd known him was making 4+2 seem like it equaled 5, to her.
Her brow furrowed, again.
"I... I don't understand," She murmured, looking away after trying over and over. She started mouthing math problems to herself too fast for anyone to be able to understand, only the variables, for her, represented his words and action. It didn't calculate. Does not compute.
((Heh. I couldn't help giving her a math refrence. Shows how her mind works, slightly ^.^))

"I'm sorry you have to hear this, but I couldn't trick you into staying with me by letting you put your faith in an illusion. Of course, that doesn't compare to my own regret when you walk straight out that door and never come back."
He said the words slowly and carefully, trying to keep his tones level and even. He didn't want to have to show the darker side, he quite enjoyed the light that radiated when the pair were together. It seemed ChiChu brought out the best in him, but she needed to know the worst too.
"I'll try and make it easier to understand."
He took a deep breath and studied her beautiful, if not slightly confused face once more.
"Taira hates you, not because of your ability, or even much to do with who you are. She hates you becuase she thinks you're taking me away from her. In her mind, I'm hers. I always has been and she's not adapting well to that change. Hence the anger."
He said, watching her face carefully. Taira was going to kill himf or this, she really was.
"I'm the same. Taira is mine. She is my sister, mine. I don't want anybody else to even think they have a claim to her. I don't like them looking at her, thinking about her, touching her, hurting her-"
He broke off suddenly as he relaised his words had started to shape themselves into an angry growl, which he didn't want to happen. So he took a deep breath before he spoke again.
"I'm too possesive. I loose sense and logic, and I'm nowhere near rational. I... I get so angry. So protective. I can't control myself and I... People get hurt."
His words were breaking by the second, and he dropped his eyes to the floor.
"I'm selfish. You deserve better. That's why my sister said-"
He couldn't finish the setence, and relapsed into silence waiting to see just how fast ChiChu would tear herslef away and run. He would force himself not to follow...

Her eyes didn't leave him as he explained. She didn't move, didn't blink. She didn't show any of her emotion. She didn't interupt. She was still. She listened. But, when he was done, her gaze fell from him as a smile slowly spread on her lips.
Variables were back in proper order. 1+1=2. She understood, again. She also understood what he apparently expected of her. It made her want to laugh, but she held back, settling for a smile.
"It's good to know the truth. I figured as much. But you aren't the only one that hurts people..." She said. She released one of his hands leading him with the other to a pair of chairs, having him sit down.
"Being protective is one thing... Killing because it's your nature is another. And not even out of hunger. You want to kill everyone because of the smallest thing... Even if it was meant with the vary best of intebtions; that's a bad reasom to kill. That's what I live through every day."
Her voice was soft and she was still looking down.
"Can I tell you a story? The real reason I don't feed of humans- only animals? It's a long one, and doesn't have a good ending... But it's 100 percent true."

He followed her like a child. He would follow her anywhere she chose to lead him. He didn't know what to say, her response had thrown him somewhat. He wanted to protest, to point out that actually, yes, that was what he went through. He was constantly fighting his nature, staying calm, staying in control. All the while imps snickered in the back of his mind, and memories of bloodshed echoed his thoughts. He wanted to protest, but some twisted part of him was happy. Happy that she didn't understand, that she still aceppted him. So he sat down, and kept his secret sins secret.
He squeezed her hand gently, drawing his chair closer to her, marvelling at the fact he was given the privellage of being so close to her.
"You can tell me anything. I'll listen."
He promised her softly.

Chu looked down at their hands, now avoiding his eyes. His eagerness was reassuring, but disconcerting at the same time. She bit her lip for a moment, trying to rally the right words to tell him.
"My... My parents are dead." She started out, the words foreign on her tongue. Her voice was flat from the familiar, but unfamiliarity of telling the story. "They've been dead for 16 years... They... They were both two of the rare humans that worked here at Athena Academy. My mother worked in the kitchens and my father was a teacher. They met here, married close by, and lived here. When my mother became pregnant with me, they moved away and decided to... settle, in Eastwood. I was born there. My parents were... surprised, when they saw I was marked. It was only slightly scary for them; they were fairly used to it. But I was born with such a faint heartbeat... Such cold, hard skin... They were sure I should be dead- Insignia or not. But there I was, crying, and laughing, and blinking my eyes.
"Because they'd worked at the academy so long, they knew Japanese, and what my insignia meant. They thought it was a nice title, so that's what they named me. They weren't sure what it meant to be Blood-Kiss, but they were sure that it couldn't be as ad as some of the things they'd seen. They figured it had to do with my nearly non-existent blood pressure. The word vampire never entered their minds.
"They were probably fools, for that.
"It was rare that anyone visited them, but they'd told everyone about their 'beautiful little gift'. They were shunned by most for that.
"'Worshiping one of those freaks!' Their neighbors would chide and scowl. 'How treacherous can they get?'. But my parents didn't care. They were happy.
"But, at the same time, I was getting hungry. I took the formula and breast milk without much complaint. But it did nothing for me. I got weaker and, apparently, more upset. One day, it was too much.
"No one but they were around, and I was mad that they weren't giving me what I needed. I hated them for it... I was a month old, but I wanted to kill... needed to.
"So I did.
"I attacked my mother first, then my father. I didn't drink much from either- but they still bled to death. I was only an infant. I didn't need much and didn't now how to feed without killing. I just wanted to kill.
"Drinking a humans blood... Gives me a glimpse of their minds, in a way. The good, the bad, and the unbearable. My mind has a place that it stores everything I ever learned from any of my... victims. That's how I know about my parents.
"A marked teacher, and a friend of my parents, found me, crying, in the house my parents died in. He found their bodies, saw my mark, and brought me to the school. I was raised here ever since... But only a select few teachers and the kitchen staff know that.
"Killing has been my nature since birth. I killed first when I was a month old. I'm no stranger to it."
She finally looked up at him, her eyes wary. She'd never told anyone about her parents death, or even that they were dead. No one knew how much the school truly was her home.

Kuro sat silently, and listened to her speak, keeping his hand on hers. He guessed how difficult it must be for her to speak those words, and confess to such an act. He could understand her pain, but he couldn't imagine going through something like that alone. He hadn't been alone, he'd had Taira through the thick and the thin. He'd never once had to stand by himself and look at what he'd done, and live with it. She had been at his side, and helped him carry the burden. Chewy hadn't had that, and that was one of the worst things.
Wordlessly, he reached out and lifted the girl from her chair and pulled her onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close. Safe and warm. He felt the need to protect her, even if the damage had allready been done. He wasn't sure what to say though, at least not in english. Nothing seemed fitting.
So he just held her close, and pressed his lips to the top of her head. He didn't think it would be enough for her, but he hoped it would be. He was out of his element, he had no idea how to make her feel safe again, and that worried him.
