"I'm not afraid. I've been raised to die. I just needed to say it."
She said simply, not wanting her friend to get the wrong impression about the motivations behind the questioning. For She was not scared. She'd lain awake and thought about death so many times that it had lsot it's power. It was just a rite of passage now, a transition from life. The darkness and the terror had dimed and faded. She was not afraid.
"I think this baby's nearly done."
She commented, casting her well trained eye on the dimishing pile of parts at her side.

Hebi nodded at Mimi's first statement, then smiled at the second.
"So," She said, examining the machine. "How powerful is it going to be?" She asked, looking closer. She smiled up at her friend, the former conversation nearly forgotten.

"Depends how much power we give it."
Mimi said with a shrug, adding the final peices of wire and metal to her creation. She pursed her lips slightly as she considered what lay before her, quick eyes rapidly checking for anything missed. She couldn't see any faults. She adjusted the metal she found, arranging it so it served as a casing. All that remained to do was to weld the metal closed, which she did with effecient speed, the burning hot flames sealing the metal easily.
"Ta-dah!"

Hebi apraised the new innvention for a moment, trying to look at it with a critical eye. But, as usually happened with Mimi's work, she could find nothing wrong. Nothing to change. Finally, she nodded, a smile on her face.
"Very, very nice." She said, holding up her hand for her little engineer to highfive.

Mimi slapped her palm against the snake-girls in triumph, and shifted the weight of the spherical invention in her arm, cradling it to her body. The metal was still warm, and they’d have to wait some time before they began to actually work with it.
“It needs to settle though. Then we can plug her in.”
Mimi had a habit of labelling her inventions with genders, and occasionally even names. Some considered it to be an unhealthy thing to do, but for Mimi they were perfectly natural. They were her creations, she’d laboured over them and in some cases her blood had even gone into them. Why shouldn’t she name them? They were special.
“The stability is questionable though, we’ll have to be careful.”
She added, wrapping her arms loosely round the metal sphere and rocking it slightly from side to side, a smile on her face.

"That's a good point," Hebi nodded. She'd gotten used to Mimi naming her creations and giving them genders long ago. It was nothing new. She'd also learned long ago the, if she were to second guess the names or genders, even though she was SUPPOSED to be the superior, she'd get her head very close to chewed up and spit out. At least in a figurative sense. Mimi, physically, couldn't do much harm to most of the people at the school. Other's that were closer to mortality, though, had better run.
"So," Hebi continued, amused by her friends affection for the contraption. "What do you think it's maximum range will be? How far can we use it for?"

"I don't know."
She said slowly, and then closed her eyes, spreading her fignertips lightly over the metal surface. She took a deep breath and then her wrist began to glow once more. This time her hands didn't move, instead her mind was re-running the mental blueprints and calculating with the mechanics. Her eyes opened again and her wrist dimmed down again.
"Well, I can't be sure without some trial runs, but I'm pretty sure we can cover a large area of ground. However, the density will also expand, meaning that the larger the feild the weaker it becomes..."
She trailed off and looked down at the object with a slight frown. Then she looked up with a apologetic eyes.
"Sorry."

"It's ok," Hebi said, smiling down at the machine. "That's all we need."
She looked up at her friend and winked. The officail palns hadn't been released to the general public of the hive, yet. People were told what they needed to know. The fact was, Wraith didn't even now everything about the attack. Hebi, along with the plotting Venus, however, knew.

Mimi knew that wink. It only took that flicker of an eyelid for unease to stir within the blonde. That wink and that smirk meant that Hebi was planning something, and she was keeping secrets. Mimi was a soldier and she'd die for this, but she couldn't cope with her loyalties being torn. Hebi was her friend, and she'd take bullets for the girl but it was against the blonde's nature to choose between her superiors. They were of equal rank, and if they gave her opposite orders, which one was she meant to follow? It alarmed her sometimes, how casually Hebi seemed to be sneaking into control. She never said anything about it though - it wasn't her place.
"She'll do good."
Was all Mimi said, smiling as she ran her skin over the smooth metal cradeled in her arms. She was proud, it was true. Inventing gave her a sense of purpose, reminded her why she deserved to be here.
"So, heard any gossip lately?"
She asked suddenly, with a grin, playing up to the dumb blonde facade she was quite adept at keeping up.

Mimi's words made Hebi smile wider.
"Nothing too unusual. I assume you have, though?" She said, going over to sit back in the cusioned chair. "You heard any good scandles lately?"

Mimi's lower lip jutted out slightly, as she shaped her face into a pout. She had learnt long ago, that a perfect pout was a formidable weaopon, and she'd mastered the art. She held the sad expression for a moment, and then a smile surfaced once more.
"Nope."
She said, popping the p as she shrugged her shoulders.
"Nothing special. I was hoping you could give me some.... Shame. We need new gossip. I met Tair'as boy-toy the other day though, does that count?"

"Boy-toy?" Hebi repeated, unfazed by the pout. "Most definitely; Spill!"
She lit up, watching her friend curiously. Gossip was one of the things hat made her happy. It was a mixture of lies and the truth that she craved- and sometimes had a hand in spreading. Truly, she was an evil genius.

"Oh yeah. Did you not know?"
Mimi raised her eyebrows questioningly, suprised that Hebi hadn't heard the gossip already. Or maybe she had but just wanted to hear it again. So Mimi took a deep breath and then launched into her story.
"Well, I was doing a handstand when Kuro came over and asked me what I was doing. So I was like, I'm doing a handstand, can you not see that? And he was like, I can see that, but why are you doing that? And I was like, 'cause I'm bored so h'e turned around and said, if you're so bored then why don't you do something. I was like, what? Then I stopped doing my handstand and he asked if I wanted to work on his car. So I jumped on him and was like YES! So then he told me to get the hell of him before he did something he'd regret so I ran off to get some stuff. He has a really nice car, and I had been dying to pimp it out a little. I mean, I made it so much better! I won't bore you with all of those details but then Ashi turned up. He was like, terrified of Kuro at first, stammering and everything! He dented the car so I whacked him, becuase Kuro was looking pissed and I don't think Taira would have wanted her boy toy dead. Just a hunch. Anyhow, then they both got angry and started snarling and growling about 'taking up an offer' or something. Kuro was getting scary angry, and Ashi was being an ass. I threw a spanner at him... Well then they started talking about Taira, but I was back under the car by this point, so I didn't hear everything. But I think basically Kuro was calling Taira a whore and telling Ashi to watch himself or she'd eat him up. Then he got snarky with me and took off the moment I was done. I hung around for a while longer, but man... That boy acts like an ass!"
She finsihed her lengthy, high speed speech with a dramatic sigh. She fell backwards, so she was lying on the ground, the invention held to her stomach.

Hebi listened intently. Sure, she'd heard about Taira's new guy, but not much. Taira, in some ways, was her friend, but Hebi never liked to ask people directly about things like that- except with Mimi.
"So, Taitai, likes the bad boys... But not one of ours. Odd. Did you find out what his insignia read? What his ability was? If I know Taira, he's powerful. She likes guys who're at least close to her equal... Or at least her brother's equal.
"Do you know whether or what she's told him about us? It could be quite important. Nobody must know... and if he does... I'm pretty sure Taira would prefer him in his current state. Reikon could deal with the boy, or he can join us. What do you think? What do you know?"
She looked down at Mimi. This was just like Hebi; take something that wasn't her business and find a way to get involved. Find a way to strengthen herself and her Hive. There was nothing new about it.

Mimi knew better than to try and answer the questions as they flew at her. Hebi always followed questions, with more questions and you'd just fall over your own words. So she just stayed silent untill the other girl finished.
"His name and insginia is Ashi Mitsuki, it means evil angel. Not entirley sure what the makes him do, be he's pretty strong. Ranking up with Taira and Kuro, which is pretty damn high. I still think Kuro could eat him though. Whatever. I don't think he knows though, it never cropped up in conversation. I can't be sure obviously, but judging by the way she ripped into that newbie when he asked about telling somebody about it to recruit them, I'd say no...."
She nibbled gently on her lower lip, considering the words and then evaltuing her thoughts on the matter. It was hard to make a descion on such a matter, based on one chance meeting which was composed mostly of emotional freakouts and subtle threats.
"I think... I think she'd be pissed if you tried to eat him, that's for sure. So maybe that wouldn't be your best choice. But knowing Taira, she doesn't want work and pleasure mixing, so she'll probabbly keep him away for us. Kuro really hates him too."

Hebi listened to Mimi, her face twisting in the slightest bit of frustration.
"I wouldn't eat him!" She objected. "Does everyone think I eat the unloyal?!" In a moment, her face went from outraged to content, almost proud- Glad, even. "If they do, then good. They need to fear me more."
It should probably have been a bad thing, the way this thought made her feel, but she didn't care. She wanted to be feared. From fear inspires loyalty. From loyalty ignites control. From control, power is born. That's the theory she lived by and, thus far, it's worked.

"Yeah, but you probabbly would eat him. That's why people think it, and that's why they always behave really well when you mention your hungry!"
Mimi laughed, her statements somewhere in that grey area of truth and imagination, making it hard to tell if she was serious or simply teasing. A slight smile curved her lips, as she lay there on the floor, idly humming along to the song playing. It was hard to stop the girl humming ro singing along to music if it was playing, even if she was in a conversation.

Hebi shrugged. "Well, at least it teaches them a little respect. I don't really eat anyone. But don't tell, just in case that's the only reason people still listen to me."
She winked at her little friend teasingly. She looked down at her finger nails, then held them out for her friend to see.
"I prefer using my tail blade and nails more than my mouth, anyway." She grinned. Her finger nails caught a bit of light, reflecting it. She didn't quite have the mastery of wielding her body into blades as her brother did, but her venom coated blade that she had at the tip of her tail and the steel-like silver of her fingers made up for it. As if to demonstrate, she reached her hand over to the wall, raking it down the smooth rock. Where here nails had stroked it, five long, clean gashes rode down the wall, bits of the stone pelting onto the ground.

"I'll tell them that you like them cooked in white wine sauce with a sautee potatoes and a light salad."
Mimi delcared with a laugh. They both knew full well that people were terrified of Hebi, with or without the threat of being devoured as a mid-morning snack. She lifted her head obligingly to study the steely nails. They were long sharp and shiny, very unlike Mimi's. It was hard to have long nails when you worked with machienry at all hours, it just didn't work. Mimi winced inwardly at the sound of nails scraping against the wall, it wasn't a pleasent sound afterall.
"Yeah, but which sounds more dramatic as a threat? I'll eat you, or I'll scratch you? You have to admit it, being eaten is kinda worse..."
Mimi teased, knowing full well the damage those nails could do.

"True," Hebi allowed with a shrug, examining her nails and picking a few stray bits of the wall out of them. It would be a lie to say that she wasn't proud of her nails, though it's not like our dear Hebi was any stranger to lying. You had to be able to lie, to be in the Hive.
"So, any plans for the later? I could use some help with my hand to hand combat." She smiled. "And I promise, no snake or nails, this time."
