[/i][/center] The music began to blare loudly around the room, thumping through the speakers at a volume that delighted the girl. Mimi liked her music loud when she was working. It helped her think. It was rare to see her working without music, or noise. Whether she was playing it, or just singing or humming to herself. There had to be music, the louder the better. The girl danced across the room to a table heaped high with what to anybody else looked like junk. To Mimi it was her new stock. Cover up with makeup in the mirror tell yourself, it's never gonna happen again you cry alone and then he swears he loves you. Mimi picked up a piece of metal and held it up to the light, turning it this way and that to see how it reflected. She pursed her lips as she considered the object, and her wrist began to glow a pale, icy blue as her mind began to pull together ideas. She reached out and began to gather various objects into her arms, a serene smile on her face. The music blared on. Do you feel like a man when you push her around? Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground? Well I'll tell you my friend, one day this world's going to end as your lies crumble down, a new life she has found
A pebble in the water makes a ripple effect every action in this world will bear a consequence If you wade around forever, you will surely drown I see what's going down.
I see the way you go and say you're right again, say you're right again heed my lecture… The gathered objects were spread out on a large water-proof sheet on the floor, and Mimi soon joined them there. She sat cross legged in the middle of the debris, pulling certain objects closer. She was in her element here, and it showed with her easy movements as she casually attached wires with little to no hesitation. Her nimble fingers instinctively knew what to do. The blonde sung along to the music, her voice weaving in a harmony with the sounds. “Do you feel like a man when you push her around? Do you feel better now as she falls to the ground? Well I'll tell you my friend, one day this world's going to end as your lies crumble down, a new life she has found.” Her attention was so caught up in the music and the task in hand, she didn’t notice much else. She just happily sung along to the song as she began her newest creation. “Face down in the dirt, she said, ’This doesn't hurt’, she said, ’I finally had enough.’” [/ul]

The long tunnels of the Hive's headquartes were as black as ever. They'd been made without teachers knowing by some of the earliest member, closely following the design Hebi (with some input from Wraith) had asked for. She knew every turn without needing to see anything. She'd spent every night of her life at the school in the tunnels and their rooms sense they were built. She hadn't really used her dorm room since moving there.
She honestly wasn't completly surprised when she say a light poking out of the cracks of one of the door and heard the tell-tail music blaring. As cold hearted as Hebi might be, she did have a few friends, and the source of this disturbance was one of them.
She pushed the door open and stood in the doorway for a moment, watching the girls work and sing. A small smile appeared on her face as she stepped up beside Mimi, though her hand did move to buttom her back pocket where her cell phone was (It had already been 'improved' a few dozen times so that she could get Satilite TV shows from India with no trouble and, more amazingly, cell reception in the deep tunnels).
"Hey Mimi. What'cha making?" She asked, though she knew the girl probably didn't know, herself.

As the sing-song words echoed out into the room, Mimi's head snapped up in suprise. Then a smile spread across her lips a she met those icy eyes. Most people had learnt to be afraid, and even though part of the girl knew to fear, she didn't in such casual circumstances.
"Hiya Hebi. I'm making... I'm not sure. But what I am sure about is that if I attack the thimgymajig to that gismo then it should create a static electric force, and if I magnify it to a certain shade of degrees and program in some co-ordinates, and then amplify the power... It could make a pretty awesome forcefeild. That should come in handy right?"
As she spoke, Mimi's hands moved constantly, her insignia a bright icy blue as she deftly manipulated the wires.

"It would, indeed." Hebi nodded, watching her friend's hands fly. She'd always envied her friend the ability to make something out of nothing. Though she was sure she knew the true names of the "thimgymajig"s and "Gizmo"s, she'd learned long ago that saying so would make no difrence. For as much as she and her brother were geniouses, she knew they didn't come close in building to Mimi.
"What do you think it'll block? Looks like it might be able to block elemental attacks from the outside... but I'm not so sure about mental based attacks. What do you think?"

"Well, if I increase the density it should be able to hold most stuff back. I mean, material can hold back bullets. Speaking of which, I'm emant to be trying that. But ti works on the same principle, the greater the density the stronger it becomes at repelling. It should provide anybody who touches it with a nasty shock though."
She said, working in time to the beat of the pounding music. She puzzled over the question though, mental attacks. How could she attack that?
"I think if I somehow infiltrate miroscopic metal fragments into the charge, it could have an effect against metal assulats, but I'm not sure... Nothing I've ever tested."
She frowned slightly, selecting a new item to add to her essemble.
"What you up to anyhow, or jsut wandering?"

Hebi sighed, moving over to one of the large chairs they'd managed to use for furnishing and sat down.
"Well, as usual, I couldn't sleep. To much going on in my head. And I couldn't find anyone who was awake that would play chess with me- plus I don't have a full set after last time I kicked Wraith's ass -So, yes, pretty much wandering. I'f been trying to work out a few problems that might occure when we attack, but I just can't think, right now. Sometimes I wonder if we'll ever get past Wraiths goal and get to mine..."
She shook her head almost saddly, pulling her knees up against her chest.
"It's all just one fucking problem after another. Non of this shit is sorting itself out, yet, and it doesn't seem like it's going to, anytime soon..." She scowled, her eyes not leaving the methodical work of her friends hands. It was, as usual, very calming. "It's just very stressful, right now..."

"You own everyone at chess. I always figured I stand a chance, but I never do. I mean, I ahve the military training and the strategic understanding but next to you and Venus, I know when to step down. I'm just the solider, you guys are the authority."
The way she spoke was matter of fact, but there was a thoughtful undertone to the words. That was prehaps one of the more refreshing parts of the girl's loyalty, she wasn't striving to be the best. She understood that not everyone could be the boss, there needed to be people on the frontline. She didn't mind fighting for people. It was how she was raised, how she grew, how she thrived. She could excel in her own personal feilds though, even if she didn't outshine everyone. Her opions didn't matter unless they mattered to certain people.
"I know you get upset sometimes Hebi, but you just gotta take a deep breath. Do whatever it is that calms you down. Keep your eyes on the prize and all that..."
It was easy to notice the friction that brewed between siblings. Hebi and Wraith were more open about it, the way they ranted and lunged for eachother. Kuro and Taira kept their anger down to subtle signs so easily missed, but it seemed the air around them crackled with the rage. Especially when they changed their words into that secret harsh language. It was disconcerting, to sense the anger but to be unable to understand it and then have it pass so suddenly..
The more time Mimi spent in the Hive though, the more adaptable she became.

"Watching you work is calming enough, for now," Hebi smiled softly, an expression few got to see full seserity of, without crualty, on Hebi's face. Mimi was one of the few people who could get that out of her, but it was still rare.
"Watching you work makes me feel as though we're getting somewhere. As if it is possible for us to get this. I've spent to many hours listening to Venus say how we can attack and how we can't. No matter how many ways there are, we haven't picked one for sure yet... And I would try playing with Venus, but she takes it too seriously... and she's always tapping her fingers on the bored and clicking her goddamn tonge. It gives me a headache..."
Hebi shook her head, looking down for a moment before returning her eyes to Mimi's hands.
"You know..." She said, the gears in her head that she usually ignored around Mimi turing. "If we make either a low or high enough frequency of a sonic wave and make a force feild out of it, It might just work against mental attacks. At least the ones that take any amount of concentration."

Mimi listened as she worked, methodically adding parts and clicking items together. It was interesting to see how all this little tibits of metal, and scrap and junk could be joined into something powerful. It was even better when she had decent parts, but she could build with pretty much anything out of whatever she had to hand. She was a child progidy in Arts and Craft when she was in pre-school, creating eleaborate structures and pretty things children loved. That was before she learnt to appriciate guns.
"That could work. That or I could jsut shoot them in the head. Whatever works."
She laughed slightly, and then did a cute little backwards roll to reached the table. She jumped to her feet and began to dig again, dragging out some larger, heaftier looking peices of metal and a soldering iron. She returned to her earlier position and laid the metal down, and then turned her attention to the soldering iron. Bringing it to life, she began to work again.
"So hows your love life going? Eaten any nerds who got over-freindly?"

"Not lately." Hebi chuckled, smiling at the progress of her friends work. "I incopasitated a newby who thought he could get close to the leader by getting me in bed. The idiot didn't see it coming."
Yes, Hebi liked to distance herself from guys under her who were interested. Most had learned, by then, but some still needed a lesson or two. It really was quite sad.
"How about you? Blow up and suiters, lately?" She smiled, tilting her head at her friend.

"Why would I blow them up? I like to sniper them. Target practise and all..."
It was strange hearing such violence coming from such a bubbly creature, but once you stripped away the cheery, sunny nature there was a lot fo darkness curling around her soul. Besides, violence was a way of life for the girl.
"My love life's depressing actually.... I should work on it. Seems to be the only thing I can't build at the moment."
She added, humming idly along to the track. It was angry music, but the harmony she wove in was bright and tinkly.

"If you want I could set you up with one of the idiots I've turned down." She said, her usually cold eyes laughing. She shifted where she sat before standing up and going to stand beside Mimi. She picked up a small tube that must have been a pen, at some point, and flipped it over in her hand.
"But if I were you, I wouldn't trust any of the guys in the Hive. They're all cold hearted." She looked up at her friend, a mocking smile on her face.

"Great. Left-overs. Never liked to eat them, don't really want to date them."
Mimi rolled her eyes at the words, but shrugged them silently away. She'd gotten involved in this orginisation, and this friendship knowing full well there was little to no compassion in Hebi. She glanced up at the second string of words, letting the mocking smile wash over her like a breeze.
"I'm not too worried about the tempreture of their hearts. As long as they're cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die gorgeous!"
She laughed, even though she knew it wasn't strictly true. Sure being handsome helped, but that wasn't all Mimi was looking for. She wasn't that type of girl, even if she liked to pretend she could be. The blonde focused her attention on the task at hand, working the mechanics.

Hebi chuckled at Mimi's words.
"I'm sure some guy will come along, sooner or later." She said, holding the tube in her hands up so she could look through it. "Preferably sooner, though. Before the attack, at least, so you can get some use out of him."

"Hebi..."
She trailed off and her brow furrowed lightly as she thought about her next words. It was something she'd been thinking about for some time now, when she found sleep evasive. It was prehaps the reason for the evasion of sleep.
"This attack. We're going to fight the entire school, or at least those not in the Hive, right? Well..."
She paused again and then lifted her gaze to her friend.
"Do you think I'll die?"
There was something startingly blunt about the question, prehaps becuase of the simplicity and the awful truth behind it. Because when facts were faced, fights were violent and Mimi was awfully mortal in most aspects.

Hebi lowered the tube from her eye, slowly turning to look at Mimi.
"Mimi," She said softly, but sternly. "If I was the kind of person who comforts people, I would tell you that no, I don't think you will. I think we'll get through this without a single life lost. But I'm not that type of person. To be quite honest with you, I don't know if you'll make it through. I don't know if I'll make it. We can't be sure anyone will. But we aren't doing this because it's safe. We're doing it because it's right. To set things right, we have to realize that there might be some losses. I really can't promise anything."

Mimi was still as she listened to the words, the stern sound oddly soothing to her ears. She felt the desire to stand up and salute, but she didn't. It was just that lingering feeling, the one you could never quite shake off. A lot of people would have been troubled by such a statement, but not Mimi. For that was exactly what she had needed to hear. No nonsense. Just the straight, honest, beleiveable truth. Death didn't scare her, or at least it didn't right now, but it still needed to be discussed.
"That's what I thought."
She said quite calmly, and then lasped into silence for a moment. Her thoughts flew far away, spanning across the horizon to distant dark places before suddenly snapping back into the present. She shrugged her shoulders gently and flashed a grin.
"But don't worry. I'll go down fighting."
She assured her friend, and then her wrist glowed and she got back to work.

Hebi smiled at her friend's promise, a familiar feeling entering her whenever she could see her power showing.
"I know," She said, her voice the slightest bit kinder before she laughed once, her tone shifting to a slightly more joking manor. "But you won't be fighting right out front. We need you with the weapons. Really, you have more of a chance of survival. One of your greatest risks is a bomb malfunctioning and going off in your face. And we all know how likely that is."

Mimi smiled back, but she didn't reply. Her thoughts were suddenly filled with that moment of time when it didn't work. That one in a ridicuously high number chance that it wouldn't work and it failed. Failed when she needed it most. Her first failure, and so far her only real failure. She didn't understand why. She'd done much more complicated things half asleep and they had worked like a dream.
"That's something to consider you know. Bombs. They're not targeted. And they kill a lot, but our numbers are way outmatched. We run a high risk if we use them."
She observed quietly, twisting cables deftly between her fingers.

"I know," Hebi chuckled. "I didn't mean we were actually using them. It's probably still the worst that could happen. You'll be relatively safe. I, on the other hand, will have my life threatened a few times over. But I think I'll be able to... slither past that."
She smiled up at her friend conspiratorially. How calmly she could discuss this! She'd realized long ago that it would take some sacrificing on her part, and she wasn't afraid of that. n fact, she embraced it.
