Jinx loved lunchtime, it was her favourite time to grab some food. Breakfast was great, all those cereal types and contential flavours but it was in the morning. Which wasn't always a good thing. Dinner also provided plenty of great flavours, but it was in the evening where Jinx was either busy or getting ready to go out. Lunchtime though... Lunchtime was perfectly balanced between the morning and the evening, and she could decide whether to have something light, or something rich and heavy. It was, for a lack of another word; perfect.
Jinx smiled as she carried her tray towards one of the tables. She neatly sidestepped a fallen banana skin, which no doubt would catch somebody later. The hall wasn't crammed with people, and was suprsingly empty for a meal-room. Jinx's keen eyes scanned those within the room, but found no desire to sit with any of them. Even if she did smile warmly back at them. Instead, she claimed a seat at an empty table.
She twirled her fork like a baton for a moment before she speared a peice of paste and plopped it into her mouth. The chef's never failed her, really they didn't. It was delicious. She began to hum softly, an old, chirpy tune as she ate. Content with her meal, she hardly noticed anybody else around her.

As always, Lexi's day started as any other. She was woken by some thing or other jolting through her, some creepy premonition that somebody, somewhere was going to die or something or that evilness. She knew not how to stop it, but knew that it would be impossible for her to do so. To fight the impulse was to sicken herself, but to rescue whomever it was would be to cause pain to herself, one of her greatest fears. As most days, the ravenous hunger hit her before she'd had chance to do anything by ways of normality including a shower. The impulse, as ever, was strong.
Perhaps it was just the way she was supposed to live. Pulled like a rag doll from one impulse to the next. She knew that each impulse was neither stronger nor weaker than the last, but they were never just distant tugs. They required assistance and attention straight away. Swallowing her hunger, Saigai skipped to the showers, letting the hot liquid wash away the strenuous night that had taken its toll. In her dreams, those fears that had battered her all day long would come to life, scaring her far more profoundly than the initial intent of fear.
After half an hour of refusal to her stomach, Sai found it hard to think straight. The lunch hall was one of her favourite haunts, yet she hated it completely. Ironic really. The potential for danger was great, a place where she could not stand by and do nothing. Still, she had to eat, and the company she found in the lunch room was pleasing, if not forced. Her footsteps were nigh on silent as she glided through the halls, forcing out everything but the hunger that rumbled at her stomach. She needed food, but the weight of the pains from the outside world was heavy on her.
Pushing through the doors of the cafeteria, she sighed with relief. It was not overly packed as most days, reducing the risk of potential injury. She knew at once as she stepped in to the room that the little freshman sitting with her friends in the far corner of the room would hurt herself slipping on a banana peel carelessly thrown on the floor. Anger flared subconsciously as she sought out the target. Preventing things from happening to someone was what she did, she didnt have to think about it. Once the danger had passed, Sai cast about, searching the feelings in the room for anymore danger. When the sickening pull in her stomach ceased, a small smile flickered over her pixie-like features. Moving like a cat, she flittered across the room, grabbing as much food as could possibly fit on her tray.
Casting a weathered look around the room, Saigai found nothing of interest. She knew that there were a few loners in the hall, but none of the caught her interest. She glided past Kinan's table without a pause. However, as she passed through the other girls presence, something peculiar made her stop. Though she could sense the girls greatest fears, she could also sense that nothing bad was ever going to happen to this girl. Like she was sheilded completely from bad luck. Astonishment struck her features as she glanced at the one most called Jinx. Perhaps this person was far more lucky than the rest of them. For a moment, she considered leaving, but even the thought tugged at her well-being. Perhaps she needed this person.
"May I sit?"
She asked in a tentative voice, aware of the fact that the girl was interested solely on the pasta before her. At the thought of food, Lexi's stomach rumbled and she sat, taking a large bite out of the sandwhich she had picked up. She cared not for the flavour, but for the satisfaction that it bought her. In the presence of the girl that sat before her, Lexi felt a little more normal for once. She could ignore the pains of the rest of the room, and bask in the goodness of the girl in front of her.
"I'm Saigai Tachikiru... But you can call me Lexi if you wish"
She murmered, her voice low, eyes downcast. She did not know who this girl was, but she needed her, needed her like an anti-drug. Jinx's head prickled, and she couldn't help but glance at the giggling freshman who was going to slip on that fallen banana skin. The very same one the blonde had glided over easily moments ago. She should get rid of it. Her gaze travelled back across the room, seeking out the offending oject. She smiled slightly when she saw another girl taking care of it for her. Excellent. The tingling in her mind faded again, letting her attention return to her meal.
That was all she focused on for the next few moments, the perfectly cooked pasta. Her attention was claimed untill another wave of bad luck rolled in or-
"May I sit?"
"Eh?"
Jinx said, showing off her skills of articulation. By the time she'd managed to stumle that out and lift her head, the speaker had allready sat and had taken a chunk out of an impressivley large sandwitch. Recognition flickered, this was the girl who'd just saved the freshman from a nasty fall. Jinx blinked and then grinned broadly.
"Hi. Nice work with the banana skin, might I add. I'm not one for full names, so you be Lexi and I'll be Jinx. Sound good?"
She said brightly, in her usual chirpy tones. Blue eyes studied the girl before her, Lexi looked familiar. Then again, she'd seen every face in this school at least once even if she hadn't been able to pin a name to certain students.
"So how come we've never crash-collided into eachother before then? Exluding the obvious fact that I don't crash-collide. Well... Unless I'm not paying attention which is rarely. Well, okay, it's kinda common.... Meh."
She shurgged and giggled.

For a moment, nothing else mattered than wolfing the sandwhich down. Admittedly, it was a beast of a sandwhich, but Sai wasnt one for dwelling over what her food looked like. As long as it was edible, it was alright in her books. Anything but Corned Beef. That was one thing she could not stand. It made her gag to even think about the crap that it was made of, but the lure of the rest of the sandwhich pulled her back again. She had heard Jinx's explamation, but chose to ignore it. She wast moving now, not now she was getting food down her. A lump of bread lodged itself in her throat, forcing her ti swallow hard before she gave a cough and answered the other's statement.
"Thanks... Involuntry reaction" She said with a small, knowing smile. "Jinx it is then!"
Sai said, trying to keep her voice light and airy. Though she knew that all she wanted to do was eat and sleep, the lure of the girls fortune was something she could not ignore. It was like spending your whole life in the rain, then one day, walking outside and being bathed in sunlight. While she was with Jinx, she didnt have to worry about what everyone else was getting up to. A small, inward sigh of relief bought the smile further up her lips as she took another bit of the sandwhich. A soft snort escaped her as Jinx began to babble about crash-collisions. Lexi could feel herself liking this girl more and more.
"That would be because I rarely come out... I like to dance, but I can't dance in front of people, hence the secrecy. Plus, being in such close proximity with people pains me... They are always falling down"
Her voice was barely a murmer as she got to the end of her sentance. She didnt want Jinx to think her weird, but there was no other way to explain her lack of appearance in the public eye. She swerved away from large crouds, the babble of fears that rose up from that was often overwhelming. But though she could tell what this girl in front of her was fearing, she could also block it out, because nothing bad would ever happen to this girl, she was like a good luck charm... One Lexi could get used to. Notes;;Word Count 400 Muse Song Plain White T's- So Damn Clever Additional Notes Nyah! Scary bread eating Lexi... Bless her.

Jinx nodded her head at appropiate moments to show she was listening to the girls words even though she hadn't said anything in response to Sagai. It was rare Jinx didn't talk, and in this case it was simply becuase she couldn't resist the food laid out before her. She finsihed chewing her mouthful, before seaking again. Jinx didn't like people who spoke with their mouthful, or people who chewed with their mouth open for that matter. Those were disgusting traits which Jinx wouldn't tolerate. It was strange how the chairs of people with those habits seemed to explode beneath them, wasn't it?
"People do fall down alot. I make people fall down alot. Apparantley have a blonde girl do a running jump-pounce thing on you, is a really good way of loosing your balance. Which I think is ridiciolous, there's enough leniceny in the numbers for them to remian standing... But aside from the discussion of ouncing, why is dancing a secret? Why can't you just dance in the corridors? Why don't you just get up and dance on this table? Actually, don't dance on this table, it's old and it will break. The other tables are okay though, we just picked a bad dancing table... Of all the luck. So, why no public dancing?"
As her words finsihed tumbling out of her mouth, Jinx tilted her head to look at the girl before her with a questioning expression.

Jinx seemed like the type of person who could sit in a room of depressed people and prattle on about anything to them, despite the fact that they didnt answer to her. She could quite happily chat to anyone about anything, and this fact bought another smile to Lexi's lips. Taking the final bite out of her beastly sandwhich, a sigh of relief hit her. She was not as hungry as before, and there was still food on her tray, but it was better than having nothing in your stomach. Even as her moment of peace settled over her, something stabbed at her subconscious. The familiar tug and the sickening feeling grasped her stomach. Taking a deep breath, Saigai focused on what the girl was saying, sucessfully ignoring the demand for the first time that year.
"So you're the one who makes my life harder..." She murmered gently, peeling an orange so that her hands were occupied. "And my dancing is a secret because, to everyone else in the school, im just the little brown-haired freak who jumps in the moment they are about to get hurt. If I bought dancing elsewhere, I would be human, and therefore not just the little freak who has the urge to jump in front of a bus to save someone. Plus, when I'm out in the corridors, I spend most of my time trying, and failing, to ignore every little injury that some idiot may cause themselves... I dont have the concentration to do what I love... See?"
It was perhaps the most she had spoken to anyone in the entire year. Sure, they had just come back and everything, but Lexi was never a girl to stop and chat to someone. She was always wrapped up in her self-struggling battle to beat down the monsters of pain that crippled her most days. But with Jinx, she didnt have to worry about that. It made it easier to think when you didnt have the crushing weight of demands from the student body.
" So what can you do?"
She asked, referring to the Insignia on the girls wrist. Her own Insignia was covered by a blue wrist-band, as was her other wrist. Though the crop top revealed her stomach, the baggy tracksuit bottoms made up for that. Perhaps a strange attire to be wearing to the lunch hall, but who cared when there was food to be had. The orange had been eaten when she was talking, though she hadnt exactly noticed the decreasing segmants until they were gone. With a self-conscious smile, Lexi began to tuck in to the pasta similar to Jinx's. It tasted good, and that was all that matter. If that was the most Lexi had spoken, it was the most Jinx had listened. She didn't intterupt, she didn't say a word. She just listened and ate, chewed the pasta and turned the words over in her head.
"Huh. Sorry for making your life difficult and all. But in my defense, you confuse my head. Becuase you're somewhere between bad luck and certainty with your desire to save people, and it's a very confusing set of numbers which has an odd tingle in the back of my mind..."
Jinx frowned for a moment, the words had brought the complicated strings of numbers into her thoughts and were hovering in her mind. She pushed them away again, distracting herself with Sagai's next words.
"Me? Oh, I'm bad luck!"
She grinned, a wide ominous looking grin for a moment and then decided to explain a little more.
"My pretty little brands means Unlucky Hope. I make bad stuff happen. It's all to do with numbers, lots and lots of numbers. So it's more to do with my mind, though I like to click my fingers when I trigger something, so it's all cool and siffy loooking. I mess with the probabilites, basically. I can make good things happen too, but for some reason it's easier to make things go wrong than it is to change them for the better. "
She shrugged her shoulders lightly, accepting the fact she was born to curse others.
"But it doesn't mean I can't do it. I'll give you a hand if you want, I can twist things so people don't do as many stupid, unlucky thigns that get them hurt. I get premonitions when bad things are about to happen, so I can stay on top of the game."
She winked and laughed cheerfully, before attacking her pasta again.

Boy did she talk a lot! A little too much in fact. An inward sigh took the smile down a notch, but it didnt stop her from appearing friendly to the other girl. Lexi stopped what she was eating for a moment to gaze at the girl.
"Apology accepted..."
She said, a smile flickering once again over her lips. She toyed with her pasta, somehow her appetite quenched for a moment. She felt a little sick actually, but that wasnt anything out of the ordinary.
"Unlucky Hope... lovely. You know, we're like, complete opposites... I prevent bad stuff from happening to other people, and you create them! Crazy world we live in!"
Lexi laughed with a shake of her head. She took a piece of pasta and carefully chewed it, considering Jinx's proposition. A smile alightened her lips at the thought of the weight being lifted, if only slightly.
"You would do that for me? Notes;;Word Count I dont care to mention Muse Song The Fray- Over My Head Additonal Notes Dont even talk to me about it! ^-^

ooc: -snuggles- it was fine, no worries!
bic:
"Yup, it's crazy!"
Jinx laughed along, not too concerned with the affect the title of her insignia had on people. She contrasted too much, that was the main problem people were confronted with. The bouncy, laughing hyperactive girl did not match her marking, and it was unsettling to a lot of people. Either they knew of her mark and couldn't understand how she could be so happy, or their view of the female was tainted by the knowledge there was no good luck charm in the world strong enough to keep you safe from her. It was fun to watch sometimes, and other times it was annoying. Today, Jinx was indifferent to it all. Let Saigai think what she would of the branding, it was her opinion and Jinx wasn't going to try and influence it with pushing words of defense or argument.
"Sure. I can't garentee I'd catch everyone or everything, and it's limited to what the numbers let me do, but I'll do my best..."
She smiled brightly at the girl, noting the smile catching the dancers lips with delight. Jinx adored making people happy, and she was fairly confident with the fact that it was her words that had brought the smile into life. Excellent.

"That is all I need..."
Lexi said, a smile brightening up her features once again. She let the smile slip freely across her face once again. The ease in which she could be with Jinx was a true life-saver, and although her food supply was fast running out, she felt like she could sit here for hours.
"So what--"
Her question was cut short as she pushed herself up from the table, sending her tray scattering across the room. The pained look on her face was terrible, but there was nothing she could do to stop that. The sickening feeling returned, and she just managed to keep her food down. Her hand gripped the table as her body moved to the side in order to get to the incident.
"I-- I must go..."
Her voice was strained as she tried to remain where she was. But not being in the immediate vicinity of Jinx was having a bad effect on her. Someone was about to get run over by a bus, and it was up to her to stop it. With that, she wirled around, launching herself from the room as fast as her small stature could carry her. No doubt that next time she saw Jinx, she would have a few more scars to add to the collection.

Jinx looked up in suprise as the tray clattered to the floor. Her eyes were wide as she locked her gaze onto the other girl. People turned to stare, but none where quite as worried as Jinx was. She knew, they didn't.
"Sagai-"
Her words were cut off as the other girl fled the room. Jinx frowned after her, trying to decide what would drive the other girl to such behaviour. She extended her sixth sense for disaster, stretching beyond her close surroundings. She didn't normally like doing such a thing, it hurt her head. But she braved it, searching for the incident that would pull Saigai towards it like a magnet. Not the paper-cut, surely it wasn't a paper cut? Jinx gasped as she found the matter, feeling as though she'd just been punched in the stomach.
"Oh, Saigai..."
She murmured, rising to her feet. She was considering giving chase, when she was alerted to an incident much closer to hand. She reached out reflexivly, catching the freshman about to fall on his face. Even as he slipped on a pile of food Saigai had left scattered, Jinx hauled him back to his feet. He blinked in suprise and muttered his thanks, but Jinx hardly heard. Her thoughts were following the other girl, even if she stayed in the lunchroom. She was keeping her promise, holding back the minor incidents to try and save Saigai uneeded pain...
